Blackberry, Apple & other Electronic "fruits"
How has language changed in the last couple of decades? Watch this brilliant comedy skit from the BBC and it hits you!
Age Perspective
The people who started university this year were born in 1992.
- They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
- Their lifetime has always included AIDS.
- Bottle caps have always been screw-off and plastic.
- The CD was introduced 3 years before they were born.
- They have always had an answering machine.
- They cannot fathom not having a remote control.
- Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.
- They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.
- They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.
- They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.
- They do not care who shot J. R. And have no idea who J. R. even is.
- They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.
Feel old yet?

Christmas Greetings for both sides of the aisle
To All My Democrat Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2011, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.
To My Republican / Conservative Friends:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in the year 2011.
V/R,

Joy & Zaniness of Being Human
Every so often you come across something that captures the joy, wonder, and craziness of our species. This video captures it all.
Tell ya one thing for sure, you will find yourself grinning and alternately shaking your head in amazement at some of this stuff captured in the video.

War & Peaceniks
Watching this video I realized once again how much I detest "Code Pinko's" and their ilk. I also despise those who claim we fight wars because of profit, or fascism, or even racism or on poor people. No, no, no and no, we don't fight wars for these reasons and no, you cannot hug a terrorist and make him like you, no matter how much you 'love peace' dude! These are the mental midgets who should be Coded Cat IV's and not allowed to fight along side our wonderful warriors.
I have no issue with war for the right reason. There is no bigger sin than a dumb war in which we waste our precious blood and treasure for no gain in our national security. One person accused me once of opposing wars for the good of downtrodden and tortured countries. They are right. I oppose altruistic wars and demand any war we fight be for selfish reasons, our gain, our national security, our safety, not that of another.
And to all those who want to embrace some sort of modern liberal based moral rectitude and blame Bush for invading Iraq as the ultimate crime and that Obama continues it, it shows how little they understand the "Hobson's Choice" we had created for ourselves with what we knew at the time. It was really a "Morton's Fork" and I have written here that there was no alternative for President Bush. His critics were playing politics which they loved more than the national security of the United States. What it all showed afterwards was that no matter who is in power in the White House and in Congress, statism have so infected both political parties that they differ little from the other in so many ways.
Invading Iraq was the right thing to do, as was invading Afghanistan. Where we went wrong was not have a clear and limited set of goals and the audacity to follow them. When we stayed in both places, changed the goal posts, and justified our war with altruism, we no longer belonged in that war.
What gnaws at me more than anything is that we have gone to a point in this conflict where it probably doesn’t matter whether our warriors succeed in Afghanistan or not. In terms of US national security, it just “don’t matter” any longer. The world has changed too much. That is a tragedy of the worst kind and what makes me salute our wounded and maimed for what they gave, while crying inside because they did so for so little gain for their country.
In this, we have a similarity to the war in which many of us ol' fart veterans fought in as kids. A green suit warrior wants only one thing, to achieve the mission. Thank God for that and their dedication to mission first. But we as citizens and former warriors have a responsibility now different than when we wore the suit.
It is to insist that our politicians spend our blood and treasure carefully, not mindlessly. In this, I fear those in DC now fail to serve their Army or their constituents. And worst of all, we waste the lives of our most precious assets, our warriors and the our treasure we possess as a nation. There is no greater failure for a nation than that.

E-mail, Spam, and my Congressman!
Does anyone under the age of 105 years old NOT have email today? Hoaxes and spam email abound. I can buy pills to do things the sender cannot spell except with the characters above the numbers on my keyboard.
Where else would you see an offer buy "PLACEBO Viagra" - no prescription needed!! It is the ultimate prey on people's ignorance who have no idea what "placebo" actually means but are plenty willing to spend some of their hard earned cash to have some.
Some of the e-mail is just nonsensical. You end up wondering why they sent to you a bunch of randomly generated phrases. Was is some sort of botnet attempt to get into my operating system or my address book? You never know anymore do you.?
After going to work for a new company recently with a new e-mail address I never thought I would ever get spam there. It took about a month for the spam to begin and now my corporate account gets as much as my private ones.
Sometimes you can figure out what the product does, other times its pretty arcane. I recently received the following email (pasted exactly as received below).

Subject: Timely route for los ing mass! Our lozenge is an advanced grease-sticking accessory which takes away fat from a fare we wolf! Formulated with the potent grease-binding fibre, the alloy of all-biological constituents...
I had not realized how much I wanted or even needed that "grease-sticking accessory" or "potent grease-binding fiber" before the e-mail. But now I wonder, should I wait for the "placebo" version to come out before I buy? :)
I finally figured out where the weird one above came from though. It has to be from my soon to leave office Congressman...the "all biological constituents" was a dead give-away. He never figured out who he worked for after he got elected. At long last, those of us who are "all biological" turned him out to pasture. Good riddance scumbag ... hope you have a good life as a spam author!

Food Shortages in the USA?
More and more, the signs continue to suggest that we are headed for some "interesting times" ahead. That came to mind reading, "CM.com Alert: Food Storage Shortage Risk Emerging." It is but one more metric to watch as we try and prepare for what lies ahead.
Many feel, after watching the US Government turn the US into a version of the Weimar Republic the die is likely cast. When, not if, is the only question remaining as to when our economy finally breaks down and stops. Keynes, once again has proven that only fools and simpletons follow his ideas. It seems to be a lesson we relearn every couple of generations of economists and academics, in the US at least.
All this drives the question, "Are you prepared to 'bug-out' or hunker down as appropriate when the house economic house of cards built by this and the previous administration comes tumbling down? Do you and your family have a plan, a roadmap for what to do when the world we have know as so stable and predictive no longer is?
When that happens there will be only lambs and tigers out there. Many will be the same ones who have been “ants & grasshoppers,” today. But many more will be those who believe they have a right to be angry that their needs are no longer being served. Many of these people will use thuggery to steal from others and kill lambs with impunity. In a nut-shell, you can likely call it "California," with a high probability of being seen as prescient! One thing is not in question, modern liberals will laugh at you if you suggest anything I have written here ... hear them "baaah."
If the analysis of what is coming is wrong, so be it. No foul, no harm and you are prepared for whatever eventuality Mother Nature throws your way if man and the feckless politicians, in fact, do not implode our society.
But if it’s right, then actions you take now will insure the welfare of those you love. While the article above addresses freeze dried food only, there are other long term food storage options too than you can take now. Without question, what we have here is a trend. Whether it be, food, gold, bullets or whatever, the signs continue to point to hard, hard days ahead. The wise prepare for it. The rest become sheep.

Chinook - Handling an Extreme Landing Zone
I admit, I used to make fun of Chinook drivers. They carried gas, recovered you when you went down, but if bullets were flying, they tended not to go there. The 160th SOAR of course changed the rules when they saw the wonderful potential of that bird and made it a war wagon that could do and carry stuff nothing else could. Yet, in addition to your local SOAR pilots, these Delta and now Foxtrot drivers are earning their flight pay here.
Everyone has seen that pix of the Chinook hovering with it's ramp down on a hut roof. Here is another version of that, it's a cross slope landing that is fine so long as your ground troops are aware of their "rotor environment." But, if you notice who these warriors are, you know, they got it.
