Classic vs. Modern Liberals

Our founding fathers were classic liberals. They would be horrified to see what alien creatures now inhabit the Congress. Modern liberals often claim a kinship to our founder's liberalism but nothing could be more untrue. Modern liberals would vehemently deny any kinship to a Trotsky, Pol Pot, Mao, or Lenin, or Hitler. In reality, much of what they advocate shows they are much the same. "Those were bad people," modern liberals say. "We are the good people who just want to help our fellow humans." The "good hearted" modern liberal is ignorant of what these evil men in history did. Few understand, or have ever read the rationales the despots used to do such evil to other humans. Bizarrely, modern liberals do not grasp how alike they sound to those evil men in history. Despots used the power of the state to squash an individual's right to live their life free of government with their property rights sacrosanct. Despots refused to allow people to act or think differently because of the threat that caused to the common good and order in society the despots needed to remain in power. Order, nationalism, and submissiveness to the state (or leader) are all necessary aspects of a modern liberal state. Listen to modern liberals closely and you here the excuses for a more pervasive government - children, poverty, inequity, health, education, and unfairness are bantered about as the basis for new laws that take property and wealth from one to give to another. Classical liberals believe in individual liberty, personal responsibility, property rights, and God's influence in one's lives. They believe government is a necessary evil, and wrote a wonderful document in 1789 to protect the individual from the excess of government they knew would happen without it. Modern liberals believe in collectivism, federal responsibility for the individual, the right to seize and plunder property when special interests or needs 'require' it and of course reject God, period. They believe that government has and should have the power to heal the sick, raise the dead, and make the old feel young. They all agree that government run schools are essential to controlling and directing the masses from an early age. The individual, in their view, is but a piece of the collective which must direct all aspects of how man should act and think for the good of all. It is a philosophy that even Osama bin Laden endorses. Although totalitarianism has had various labels in history, their common DNA is their modern liberalism.
