Our first Bernese Mountain Dog, Brigadier, forever captured our hearts. I used to tell people he was the only Brigadier that I knew would take orders from me. But the truth was this 140 lb lap dog ruled, he just let us think we did. When we lost him we were devastated and I was hard over we were never going to get another. When he "crossed the rainbow bridge," he took all the love-ons we gave him over the years with him and that left a big empty place in our lives.
A couple of months later we took off for Switzerland, where Bernese Mountain Dogs are as common as Labs are here. Everywhere we went we encountered these guys. Getting home, we both knew we had to get at least one more Berner.
We ended up with two. Both are very different from him. Our boy is a tiny 100 lbs and our girl barely 75 lbs. When we got them we had decided we were going to no longer battle the hair on our furniture and beds by prohibiting them from getting on them. That didn't last very long.
I write all this because it kinda explains why I posted this video. It impossible to watch it without banishing a gray day or unpleasant thoughts. Their joy they exhibit as they live life rubs off on everyone they touch.
But let me warn you. You do not want one of these dogs. They don't drool, but they do slobber. They only shed twice year. Once during the Jan-Jun period and then again July- Dec. One Berner owner swears that her proctologist identified the breed of dog she owned after a cancer screening. One thing is for certain. If you own one or more of these dogs you can never commit a crime and expect to get away with it, simply because you are guaranteed to leave Berner hair everywhere you go. So now that I have warned you of the dangers ... here is the video that I found so irresistible. I think we need a couple more!

Sigh. So cute. What a deal, they only shed 2x a year! lol. Fortunately I'm immune from these kinds of videos otherwise I'd want to get one.
